Letter of Intent

Dear Internship Coordinator,
I am writing this letter to show interest in your summer Internship program. I am an extremely dedicated individual and hard worker. I have always been interested in the field of Communications and Journalism so I believe I would make an excellent asset to your company. The classes I have been taking at The College of New Jersey have only solidified my interest in these fields and the knowledge I have obtained from these courses will carry me far in life. Because of my knowledge and dedication I feel as though I would help to make your company grow and prosper.

It is evident from my grades that I worked hard my first semester of college to obtain a high G.P.A. This hard work in school will carry over to the company that I intern with. I am always up to a challenge and I never stop until I have reached my goal. My resume is attached to the following.

Thank you for taking the time to consider me in your organization and I hope to talk to you in the future.

Sincerely,
  Erika Rieth

Biography

I am 19 year old Journalism and Communications double major at The College of New Jersey. I have taken numerous classes over the past two semesters that I believe add to my knowledge. I have taken Public Speaking in Business and Government, Magazine Writing and Feature Writing just to name a few. My communication skills, drive to succeed and interpersonal skills will be essential to my success in the future.

After graduating from The College of New Jersey in May of 2012, I hope to pursue a Masters in Journalism from Dartmouth University. It has always been a dream of mine to become a TV News Anchor and I believe my undergraduate experience at TCNJ and my graduate experience at Dartmouth will help me achieve that goal.

I was extremely active in high school. I attended The Pennington School in Pennington, NJ, a co-educational day and boarding private school. I was an editor for my school's newspaper, an ambassador for the perspective students and a member of the spanish honors society. I was also a four year varsity softball player and captain my senior year.

My dad is in the Army National Guard and holds a politically appointed position. Because of my dad's involvement in politics I have met a lot of influential people and have made long-lasting connections with them. I feel blessed for the opportunities that I have been given in my life and I hope to continue making these connections.

My extensive resume is posted below listing my work experience, academic experience and volunteering.

The Signal

Since I am a journalism major I believe being involved with the school's newspaper is essential. Since writing is a passion of mine I wanted to contribute in some way to a school-wide publication. I wrote an article for The Signal, TCNJ's school paper, about W.I.L.L (Women In Learning Leadership) and their trip to Nicaragua.

Green City Presenation

One of my first classes at TCNJ I had to act as the President of a firm called Green City INC. We had to design "Green" condo's to market and sell. My group worked hard on this project and I believe it shows my ability to work together as a team, my ability to manage a high profile project and my drive to finish a project by the deadline.

Examples of my writing

For my magazine writing class I had to write a Feature Story about a person who we deemed "news worthy."

This is a paper that I wrote for my Freshman Seminar Class about Friendship. I think this paper showcases my understanding of other people and my ability to learn new things.

Homophily Paper

This is a paper that I wrote on Generation Gaps for the same Freshman Seminar Class. I believe this paper showcases my ability to work with people of all ages and truly understand things no matter how big the age gap.
